St. Canice's BNS, Finglas
Well done to the boys who won the Cumann na mBunscol Hurling League in 2013. They won all their matches and they were a credit to themselves and the school every time they took to the field. Well done lads!
Recently our school won an award for all of the hard work that has been done in our school to promote hurling. Friends of Dublin Hurling presented our teachers with an award on an awards night in the Red Cow Inn where we receved plaque and a set of new school jersies. In recognition of this award teachers organised a blitz among boys in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class. Well done to all the boys who took part and many thanks to the teachers who organised the day! It was really enjoyable. We look forward to the Junior Hurling Team taking to the field in the spring.
Mr. Irvine's and Ms O'Keeffee's Class took part in a workshop in Finglas Library in October 2013. The boys were given the opportunity to learn from author and illustrator, Alan Nolan. Alan taught the boys about comic making, drawing cartoon characters and extending stories in comics through discussion and active participation.
Well done to our Gardening Club who have been working really hard at planting some bulbs. The bulbs that the boys planted will sprout into life in the spring. Thanks to all the boys who took part and also to the teachers who organise the club. Thanks to Derek who helped out with the difficult task of digging.
Well done to our Junior Football team on winning the recent Cumann na mBunscol league in October 2013. They also reached the quarter finals of the Fingal League in April 2014. Throughout the campaigns the boys displayed a great attitude, excellent behaviour as well as superb skill. Well done to all of the boys on this great achievement.
Recently our 6th Classes have taken two trips. In September they visited the local Garda Station in Finglas. In November they visited an Ann Frank exhibition in the city centre. The boys really enjoyed both trips. Take a look at the gallery section of our website to see some photos from both trips!
Well done to our fifth class boys in winning the recent Gaelic Football tournament which was held in Erin's Isle in September 2013. This tournament was organised by the Finglas Gardaí. The players showed a great team spirit throughout all of their games. They played as a team and worked very well together. Everybody on the day was excellently behaved. Well done boys!
Well done to the Junior Hurling team on their recent success. The Junior team won the Cumann na mBunscol league winning all their matches in the 2013 competition. Well done to the boys on their excellent performances throughout the campaign. They were excellently coached and prepared by Ms. O'Keeffe, Mr. Power and Mr. Ward. Throughout all their matches the boys worked hard, displayed great skill and behaved impeccably.
Well done to all the 6th class boys who completed an eight week boxing training programme before the Halloween holidays. All the boys who completed it will receive bronze and silver certificates.. Seven boys were chosen to complete a four week training course at the Irish Boxing High Performance Unit on the South Circular Road. The boys have now completed this four week course and will be taking part in a boxing exhibition on Wednesday, December 4th at the National Stadium. Proceedings will get underway at 12pm. This will be a great occasion for the boys and their families. All the teachers and staff at the school are very proud of the boys and we think therecould be a future Kenny Egan or Jason Quigley in our midst at the moment at St. Canice's BNS. We wish them well next Wednesday
