Cycle Right Programme

Cycle Right is a cyclist road safety training programme undertaken each year by the 6th classes and it is designed to give cyclists the knowledge and skills to move safely through the road system, an environment shared with other road users.

Cycle Right is delivered over two stages with participants gaining skills and knowledge on a phased basis which prepares the individual to cycle in increasingly complex road scenarios. The individual sessions in each stage are delivered on a weekly basis on the school yard at St. Canice’s B.N.S. This section lasts for five weeks. As participants move through the stages of training, they take greater levels of responsibility for themselves on their bike on the road. The final two weeks are spent on the road where the two instructors bring the boys in groups of ten out on the road to practice their cycling skills. It is a most rewarding and enjoyable seven weeks for the boys and the course is expertly facilitated by Don MacSweeney and Mike Connolly of Cycle Right.
