1st Class - Room 1

All Go in First Class!

The First Class boys in Room 1 have been very busy learning and developing new skills across many areas of school life in the run up to Christmas.

In Maths, they have been exploring place value through fun, hands on activities and games. Using concrete materials has helped them to better understand numbers, build confidence, and strengthen their problem solving skills while working collaboratively with their classmates.

The boys were also practicing enthusiastically for the Christmas concert, learning songs, actions, and how to perform together as a group.

Music continues to be an exciting part of the week with Brona, where the boys are developing their musical creativity, rhythm, and listening skills through music generation activities.

To help get into the festive spirit, the class enjoyed a hot chocolate party, which was a lovely opportunity to relax, chat, and build friendships before the holidays. In addition, basketball training continues every Thursday with our coach, where the boys are improving their coordination, teamwork, and fitness while learning the importance of practice and perseverance.

Steaming Ahead into First Class!

We have had a fantastic start to the year in First Class!

Every Friday, Coach Hayden from Erin’s Isle visits us, and we are busy working on our GAA skills. We are learning how to pass, catch, and work as a team — we’ll be ready for the St. Canice’s team in no time!

We are also lucky to have Music Generation in our classroom each week. We’ve been developing our listening, responding, and singing skills, and most importantly, we’ve been having lots of fun along the way.

First Class work is a little trickier than last year, but we are rising to the challenge! We’ve been impressing everyone with our fantastic counting skills, even when the numbers get really big. In literacy, we are working hard on our reading and writing, and we love showing off our new handwriting skills.

On Thursday, September 25th, we celebrated SNA Appreciation Day. We went on a secret mission during the week to make a beautiful card for Helen and to show her all the ways we see her helping us every day. She got a big surprise when we presented it to her — mission accomplished!

We’ve also been enjoying art projects to brighten up our classroom, exploring the signs of autumn on nature walks, and getting to know each other through games and teamwork activities.

It’s been a busy and exciting September, and we are really looking forward to all the learning and adventures that First Class will bring this year!
