St. Canice’s BNS have obtained two Green Flags to date.  

Our Green School’s Committee are working hard at coming up with ideas to help reduce waste, promote recycling of paper and plastic as well as reducing energy use (Electricity and Gas) and water use.  

Electricity

Our school has been reminded that we should switch off our PCs, projectors as well as any other electrical device when we are not using them.  We try our best to turn off lights when we do not need them, particularly on bright sunny days.

Water

We also try to ensure that water is not wasted by ensuring taps are turned off when not being used.  Joe, our caretaker, regularly services the cisterns for the urinals to ensure they flush only when they are being used by our pupils.

Paper and Plastic

We have recycling bins in every room in the school.  We recycle any unused paper and plastic in our recycling bins.  We try to use just the right amount of paper towels when drying our hands.
